Oh P.S. I have a totally new life now.

Mon Mar 16, 2009, 12:48 PM
In case some people read this who aren't my close friends, I'm living in France for a year.
For the last two months I've completely forgotten about being creative because trying to understand what people were trying to say to me got in the way. Kind of makes sense really.
Anyway, then I read some blogs and drank some tea and made an amatuer film in a french wine cellar and remembered that I liked that stuff.

Let's be honest, I miss being around creative people. Exchange students are just survivors. Kind of need something more.

Here's a few things I've picked up in my browsings:

St Theresa's Prayer (not that I'm religious, I just like the sentiments):

May today bring you peace within.
May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others.
May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on that love that has been given to you.
May you be content with yourself just the way you are.
Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Walter de la Mare's 'Dream Song':

Sunlight, Moonlight
Twilight, starlight-
Gloaming at the close of day,
And an owl calling,
Cool dews falling,
In a wood of oak and may.
Lantern-light, taper-light,
Torchlight, no-light:
Darkness at the shut of day,
And lions roaring,
Their wrath pouring,
Into wild waste places far away.
Elf-light, bat-light,
Torchwood- light and toad-light,
And the sea a shimmering gloom of grey,
And a small face smiling
In a dream's beguiling
In a world of wonders far away.

And a bit of Victor Hugo. Forgive me the lack of correct accents in places. My keyboard hates me.
From Préface - Les Contemplations.

Such an incredible text. Must read more V.H. (do ignore the emoticons.. they're just é p s. don't get it.

Here's my list of things I should know about, and hope by the end of my year here to understand:
1) History of Tibet, the views of the Dalai Lama
2) Buddism (how vague and general of me)
3) The war in Iraq and Afghanistan, history of foreign relations, how it began, what eventuated, what's happening now
4) What's happening between Israel and Palestine, the history behind it, what's happening now, international views, cultural and political standpoints
5) How to draw.
6) American politics, the policy splits and party lines, gun law and the role of the NRA, Assemblies of God, the role of Church in State
7) Yoga/Tai chi - at least one exercise to do each day.
8) Global geography and politics. Try to generally understand where everything is, and who controls it. How broad.

Oh and of course the good ol' try my best to be bilingual. But that's a given.
If you have any information on the above (please source) I'd be much abliged.
